Doha, Qatar
Doha Investment Company, wholly owned by the Qatar Investment Authority, raised the size of the Active Asset Management Initiative to 5 billion riyals (about $1.4 billion), compared to 2.6 billion riyals, to enhance investment in listed Qatari stocks, deepen the capital market, attract more asset managers and expand the participation of institutional investors in the Qatari market, according to a statement by the company on Monday.
The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) launched the Active Asset Management Initiative in January 2024, through partnerships with local and international asset managers to invest in stocks listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange. The financing of the participating funds when launched was based on the reallocation of shares owned by the Authority in listed companies.
The 2.4 billion riyal increase in the size of the initiative will be funded by new cash, which will be available to qualified local and international asset managers, according to a separate statement from the Qatar Stock Exchange on Tuesday.
Wider background and details
(According to QIA’s statements on the launch of the company and the initiative, the Doha Investment Statement, and the location of the institutions mentioned)
Doha Investment Company was launched in September 2026 to manage and grow the local investment portfolio of the Qatar Investment Authority, the country’s sovereign wealth fund. Its launch portfolio included more than 40 companies operating in more than 80 global markets, including Qatar Airways, QNB Group and Qatar Diar.
Since its launch in 2024, the initiative has invested 2.6 billion riyals and currently has four asset managers, with plans to include new managers from inside and outside Qatar on a regular basis.
The initiative has contributed to the increasing number of asset managers conducting research on Qatari companies, an increase in the number of orders in the order book, and a reduction in the differences between supply and demand prices, according to the Qatar Stock Exchange statement.
The initiative is jointly attended by the British Ashmore Group, which specializes in emerging market investments and is listed on the London Stock Exchange, and Vieira Capital, Canada, which is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
It also includes the U.S.-based Franklin Templeton Investment Management Company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and Lasha Bank of Qatar, a Shariah compliant investment bank listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange
