The activities of the second international forum for real estate development, engineering and construction "IREX 2026" began on at the Seven Gates Hotel in the Syrian capital, Damascus, with the participation of local and international companies, as well as real estate developers, investors, experts and specialists in the construction and construction sectors, to discuss investment opportunities in the Syrian market and mechanisms for the development of real estate and housing projects, which contributes to supporting reconstruction efforts.
The two-day forum aims to enhance cooperation between stakeholders and investors, discuss the challenges facing the real estate development sector, and review modern solutions and technologies that can be used in the implementation of urban and housing projects.

Maher Khalouf: Transforming investment opportunities into actionable projects
The Assistant Minister of Public Works and Housing, Engineer Maher Khalouf, stressed the importance of the forum in providing a platform that brings together local and international companies to exchange experiences and identify the investment opportunities available in Syria, and work to transform them into realistic projects that can be implemented.
He explained that real estate development is not limited to the presentation of ideas and plans, but requires the integration of planning and implementation stages, to ensure the completion of projects that respond to urban and housing needs.
He stressed the need to address the challenges facing the construction sector and expand the use of modern technologies, thus contributing to raising the quality of projects and accelerating their implementation within appropriate timetables.
The captain of engineers: Syria needs about one million housing units
For his part, the head of the Engineers Syndicate in Syria, Engineer Malik Al-Haj Ali, revealed the country's need for about one million housing units to fill the gap in the housing sector, stressing the need to intensify efforts to provide safe and sustainable housing that meets the needs of citizens.
Al-Haj Ali pointed to the importance of developing legislation governing the real estate development sector, which contributes to improving the investment environment and facilitating the implementation of residential and urban projects.
He stressed the pivotal role of the Engineers Syndicate in the stages of planning, technical supervision and quality control of implementation, stressing the importance of adhering to engineering standards to ensure the safety and sustainability of facilities.
Hossam Al-President: Promising investment opportunities in the affected areas
In turn, the Director of the Technical Network for Business and the organizer of the forum, Eng. Hossam Al-President, said that the second edition of "IREX" reflects a development in the nature of discussions related to the real estate development sector in Syria, after the 2025 edition focused on reviewing the challenges, while the current version is moving towards discussing practical solutions and strengthening partnerships between companies and investors.
The President explained that the Syrian market includes great investment opportunities in the real estate sector, pointing to the increasing interest in projects directed to the affected areas, especially in the governorates of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor.
He revealed the existence of talks for the entry of a large Arab company into the Syrian market to implement one of the investment projects, without disclosing the identity of the company or the nature of the project and its details.
He pointed out that the forum seeks to enhance direct communication between investors, real estate developers and stakeholders, which helps to move from the stage of offering opportunities to study projects and mechanisms of implementation on the ground.
