Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s seasonally adjusted Al Rajhi Financial Index for the seasonally adjusted construction sector, in collaboration with S&P Global, fell slightly to 54.4 points in September 2026, compared to 55.4 points in August.
This is the fifth edition of the Saudi Construction Sector’s Al Rajhi Financial Index, a new monthly survey of 200 carefully selected construction companies, ensuring that they accurately represent the true structure of the Saudi construction sector.
According to the latest survey, there is a strong rise in the level of activity of the Saudi construction sector, continuing the recovery chain that began in May 2026, and all three sub-sectors recorded a rise in business, and the best-performing sectors included both residential construction and infrastructure.
The latest reading showed the lowest growth rate of business activity in 4 months, while the companies participating in the survey explained that this is often due to favorable market conditions, and strong demand associated with major construction projects that continued to achieve growth in residential construction, commercial construction, and infrastructure, although some construction companies stated that the challenges related to sales are due to the slow decision-making of customers in September 2026, while other companies reported the challenges resulting from the high rate of price inflation.
Activity in the residential construction sector rose sharply during September 2026 and non-residential construction activity recorded a slight expansion in construction activity of 50.9 points
Construction companies pointed to the rise of new business for the fifth consecutive month in September 2026, although the overall rate of new business growth was the lowest since May 2026. The survey data for September 2026 confirmed a strong and rapid rise in infrastructure business activity, and the seasonally adjusted index rose from 53.9 points in August 2026 to 55.8 points in September 2026, the second highest reading since the survey began in January 2026.
On the other hand, activity in the residential construction sector rose sharply in September 2026, with the index reaching 56.6 points, but at a lower pace than the previous month, and non-residential construction activity recorded a slight expansion in construction activity, reaching 50.9 points, and the lowest growth rate since May 2026.
It is noteworthy that the companies revealed positive optimism and expectations in the survey’s outlook index in September 2026; although some companies indicated increased competition, and some challenges resulting from geopolitical conditions, and nearly 34% expected construction companies to increase business activity over the next three months, while only 8% of companies expected a decline in business activity, and the highest level of optimism in the residential construction sector with the second highest level of confidence since January 2026.
